Protected phage DNA is present in Pg cultures. Coverage (dark gray plot) of nuclease-protected DNA sequences from a filtered 20-day-old ATCC 49417 culture mapped onto a section of the ATCC 49417 genome that was assembled from the same untreated, 1-day-old culture. An ~ 49 kb spike in coverage, with maximum 9225 × coverage (indicated by the scale on the left, middle hash mark notes mean coverage), corresponds with the region of phage005b in GCA_028335125_contig_1. Colored block arrows represent phage genes predicted by Cenote-Taker2 [81] (major capsid protein marked with star), while white block arrows represent host genes predicted by Bakta [78].
