Proposed mechanisms of TCT challenge response within bacteriomes of S. oryzae. TCT injected in the hemolymph reaches bacteriomes and is recognized by PGRP-LC from bacteriocytes. Through a signaling cascade potentially dependent on IMD/RELISH proteins, bacteriocytes activate an AMP induction which for the most part are thought to be secreted (ColB, Srx, Lux, Gly-rich AMP, Dpt-2, Dpt-3, and Dpt-4) to aid in the global immunity response, but no effectors are perceived by the bacteria within bacteriomes. AMPs are also produced by the fat body and secreted to the hemolymph. ColA in turn is kept within bacteriocytes to prevent S. pierantonius from exiting the host cells during this immune challenge
