(A) H. hepaticus- uninfected conventionally raised mice appear normal. (B) H. hepaticus-infected conventional section shows edema, hyperplasia and inflammatory infiltrate. (C) H. hepaticus- uninfected germfree control, and (D) H. hepaticus- infected germfree cecum sections are both normal, with few signs of inflammation.
